One person was killed and one child was critically injured after they were struck by a Florida East Coast freight train in Daytona Beach, Florida. Daytona Beach Police Department units and firemen arrived on the scene after a train accident involving two pedestrians was reported. The firefighters found the woman and child about 30 yards north of the railroad crossing arms. The woman was reported dead at the scene. The child was transported to Halifax Medical Center in critical conditions with fractures to the infant’s left side. The accident is still being investigated. The death of this woman is a tragedy for her family and community. Train-and-automobile accidents can be extremely fatal. It is important for drivers to stop at the crossing arms as opposed to trying to rush through them. In Florida, personal injuries and wrongful deaths continue to take place in or near railroad crossings or railroad tracks.
